Fake lashes on your nails!

Since I was about 17 everywhere around Halloween I hit any and all store that have fake lashes and buy all the fun cheap lashes. About two years ago while still buying I stopped going to shows and events as much so I have stopped using the lashes I buy. I have maybe 60 pairs under my sink in a small box just not being used so I though I'd give a try adding them to my nails.
This is how they came out, I think they look pretty cool but took a little longer then I thought they would.
Here's what you'll need: A top coat (I use Rimmel Top Coat), a base color , small nail scissors & lashes.
First, prep for your manicure, to make it last longer. Remove your old polish, if any, and soak your hands in warm water for a few minutes. Trim your nails and push back your cuticles but don't cut them. Do not use lotions or oils on your hands before you start, it may make the dry time longer.
Paint you base color, I am using Julep's Sophie. Its currently my favorite color.
Your cheap lashes, I ended up only using one.
Cut it in to ten pieces.
It can be tricky but apply a light coat of your top coat. I wouldn't recommend using your base color, the color may get on the lashes and hide them.
While nail is still wet use you scissors to cut off the extra, try to cut as close to you nail bed as possible. Apply a few coats of your top coat and your done!
After doing my left hand it was so much easier.  I was using just a small pair of craft scissor from my desk but after my left hand was done I grabbed our nail scissors and it was so much better!
Let me know if you give it a try!

How to add holes to your lovely beetle wings.

I have been using beetle wings for my jewelry since I was given a very lovely necklace made by a coworker's daughter about 8 years ago. At that time I had seen a few different type of bugs set in resin in a few different places but nothing that had just the wings.
I started buying jewelry with the wings and took it apart so I can use the wings for other things. That was not cheap but at it was all I could do, I could not find the wings by themselves. After about a year of doing that I found a place in Los Angles while picking up some supplies for the jewelry shop I worked for that had just the wings! I was so happy and it was loads cheaper than what I had been doing before.

The wings were not drilled like the ones I was using from the already made jewelry so I had to find out how to add holes to the wings. While trying to find a way to do it I maybe ruined only 2. Its overall pretty easy.

I started selling just the wings on my etsy supply shop and have been asked many times how drill the wings so here is a few ways of doing it.

You can use a drill press.
Use the a drill size that fits your craft need.
Flip the wings over so you are drilling on brown side of the wing and press down.

You can use an exacto knife.
This is my favorite way of doing it.
Flip the wing over and start to twist the knife slowly and firmly in a circle pressing down little by little as you twist so the hole gets bigger as you go. Stop when you have reached the size you are happy with.

You can use a needle.
This is the slowest way of doing it, I personally have not tried it this way but I have seen it done and the hold are nice and clean.
You will need to boil your wings for a moment in water and then poke the wing with a needle. You can roll the needle to make the hold bigger.
One of my first beetle creations :)
These gorgeous, iridescent wings are shed from jewel beetles.
The beetles have a short life span of only 3-4 weeks, and the wings are only collected after then.
Wing sizes average around 1-1/4 inch long by 3/8 inch wide, some wings may be longer or shorter but not by much. They are slightly stronger then a finger nail.
I love the wings as earrings, they look great with my red hair too!

Negative Candle Holder

Make a light box-esque illuminator with this cute summertime DIY project!
via PhotoJoJo

My house is pretty bare as far as decorations go so I was looking up fun, easy & cheap things to do to add just a hair of spice to my patio and living areas. I saw this and fell in love! I don't have pictures of everyone I want in mine so I will be stealing some from their facebook pages (muhahahaha) and turning them into a negative! I'm just going to turn the pictures black and white, crop to the size I want and print them on transparencies.

Other cute film craft ideals!

New Earrings from Very Enchanting Jewelry.

My boyfriend is let for New York today and will be gone for just over a week. I got a few goodies to make pretties and keep myself busy while he wasn't home but while he was packing I made them a few of them yesterday... I started with the bubble earrings but just went crazy and made to all the earrings I was going to make over the week!

I have a few bracelets and necklace in mind to keep me busy though. I'm also going to rearrange my bedroom and clean up my office... not looking forward to that at all.

These earrings are very very easy to make but can be harder depending on how much handmade you want them. If you want to make your flat back beads like I do with some of mine you'll need to make a mold (I do silicon) or buy a mold you like. You'll need to get resin and follow whatever steps you have for making the beads, this can take up to 48 hrs for the resin to be ready. You can also just buy some flat back beads from a craft stores or sites. You will be your flat back beads, earring post, earrings backs and jeweler's glue.
Place a little glue on the back of the bead and then place you post on the glue. Hold the post in place for a moment then set it aside to dry for however long the glue says, I always leave them alone for about 24 hours even if the glue says 10 minutes. After they are all dry they are ready to wear so add on the earrings backs and you are good to go!
Bubbles! These guys are what started it. I wanted to see how they would turn out then just kept making them. They turned out way better then what I though. The posts I used make the color pop more, I was scared that the would be very visible and take away from the bubbles.
These ones are definitely my favorite of these little button earrings.
Foiled acrylic neon diamond zebra print stud earrings.
I love the green ones so I made a pair for myself :)
Colorful flowers, I make these before and gave them out as gifts during Christmas to a few kids I know and sent an orange pair to my aunt. She loved them!
A bouquet of earrings!
Dino Earrings, these little buddies were once buttons and now are too cute and ready to be worn by and dinosaur lover!
T-Rex yeah! I'm on the look out for some raptors to go with these guys because raptors are the best!

Thanks for stopping by, feel free to shop by my etsy shop to see more of my goodies and more pictures of what I have posted here!

Simple Framed Resin Rose Drop Earrings Tutorial

Framed Resin Rose Drop Earrings Tutorial

You will need hooks, flat back beads or stones, frame charms
roughly the size of beads & glue. I used G-S Hypo cement, it is a very
good glue, it's also pretty cheap & dries in ten minutes. I don't think you
can buy it from craft shops but you can find it online for $2-4 a tube
or at most jeweler's marts.
Place a drop of glue in the center of the charm and place you bead
on top. Press down on the top of the bead and hold it for a few
seconds. Let it dry flat on its back as pictured above for about
ten minutes. Try not to use too much glue so nothing spills over the
sizes of the charms.
Place the charms after they dry on the hooks and you are good to go!
If you have double sided charms like mine you can add a picture
or leave it empty like I did. If these were bigger I would had
something to the back.
You can see more pictures of these earrings on my etsy shop.
You can also buy supplies to make these on my etsy supply shop.

Thank you for looking, hope you enjoyed the post!

Paddy's Day Inspired Nail Tutorial

St Paddy's Nails!

This is how I had my nails a few days ago. They came out alright but they were messy & then I kept picking at my nails and they became chipped... so I had to do them over! I also got a new file so I wanted to fix my nails.

Here's what you'll need: A top coat (I use Sally Hansen Dries Instantly, dries in about 30 second), feature colors for your dots and faded colors, a base color, a sponge. Go wild with picking out colors, I went with green and gold for St. Patrick's Day.
First, prep for your manicure, to make it last longer. Remove your old polish, if any, and soak your hands in warm water for a few minutes. Trim your nails and push back your cuticles but don't cut them. Do not use lotions or oils on your hands before you start, it may make the dry time longer.
Try using the manicure file with the different sides after you've had your hands soaking in warm water. It helps smooth away the ridges in your nails for a longer lasting and better looking manicure.

Go across the base of your nail for a cleaner look.
For a more professional look try making your first swipe at the base of your nail without getting polish on your cuticles. I started doing this and the nails really come out so much nicer.
No polish on the sides or cuticles :)
Apply one or two coats of you base color.
Starting from the back always helps me!
Next, grab your sponge. I used a makeup sponge.
I got a big cheap bag at the super market. You can cut it smaller if you want, it may be cleaner if the
piece is smaller.
Apply some of your polish to a corner of the sponge.
I went light to dark for my fade but you can do a different combo.
Tap the sponge on the nail.
Don't go all the way to the cuticle, you want some of the base color to show.
Apply once or twice until you are happy with the color.
I applied 2 coats of the first green.
Apply the second color to the sponge.
Apply the second color closer to the tips.
Don't cover some of the first color.
Apply the second color until you are happy with the color.
I added a 3rd color but it didn't show :(
I'm using the brush from my nail art polish.
You can use a toothpick if needed.
Use the base color for your dots.
I put some on a piece of paper so I can dip the brush.
Tap your brush or toothpick in the polish.
Start adding your dots.
You can do other designs or use another color other then your base color.
I did half diagonally on my ring finger.
Apply one or two coats of your top coat.
I applied 2 coats.
All done!
Pretty!

 Thanks for looking
